I found this film about the Liberty Belle this morning and want to share it with you. Quite a plane that was in those days.

Visiting Boeing may years ago I was told that, in order not to get any delivery delays (like most aircraft manufacturers have today) a fitter was trained to do just two or so very minor and simple jobs. So, if a man fell out it took very little time to train a new fitter and the production rate never suffered. I can not remember the number of B-17s that were delivered per day during the peak period but I do remember being told that when the engines were started up for the first time and, providing there were no serious engine or system snags, this first engine run became the beginning of the test flight which was also the delivery flight.
